Market forces could push builders to construct more affordable housing in St. Charles County, say those in the industry, but only if local governments remove regulatory barriers.
During a discussion on housing last week, home builder Tom Hughes said he sees a trend on the part of developers to get more work- force housing built in the county. But an increased demand for work- force housing won't translate into an increased supply if local politicians don't remove the zoning and regulatory barriers that prevent such housing from being built, he later added.See the full content of this document

Besides high land prices, "folks in government" are most responsible for driving up home prices, Hughes said. Prices have risen so high that builders now look at what they can take out of their models to make them more affordable, he added.
