The executive committee of the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce surprised many chamber members and a few board members when the committee in December told chamber president Charlotte Sparks to hit the road. Shortly thereafter the executive committee announced that Scott Tate, who had been serving as president of the O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce, would succeed Sparks.

The chamber on Dec. 10 notified its membership and those board members not on the executive committee that Sparks resigned to spend more time with her family. But that statement almost immediately was met with skepticism by numerous chamber members.
